In questo saggio di filosofia della matematica (Morris Kline, Mathematics – The Loss of Certainty<\/em><\/a>, Oxford University Press 1980, pag. 366, $19.95, ISBN 978-0-19-50385-3) Morris Kline mostra non solo che la matematica non ha certezze, come forse molti hanno intuito cercando di capire il significato del teorema di incompletezza di G\u00f6del, ma che il suo sviluppo \u00e8 stato molto meno “matematico” di quello che ci vogliono far credere, che Euclide si \u00e8 dimenticato una mezza dozzina di postulati, che le stagioni del rigore sono state brevi e che il rigore di ieri non \u00e8 quello di oggi e quello di oggi non sar\u00e0 quello di domani, che non \u00e8 vero che la matematica modelli il mondo reale e che curiosamente la perdita della fede in Dio si sia riflessa sulla perdita della fede nella matematica stessa. Kline ritiene inoltre un fallimento lo sviluppo della matematica dell’ultimo secolo, avvitata in s\u00e9 stessa; secondo lui la fecondit\u00e0 della matematica sta nel modellare, ancorch\u00e9 imperfettamente, il mondo reale. In definitiva, un libro piuttosto pessimista, anche se c’\u00e8 una nota positiva sul fatto che si pu\u00f2 fare matematica (e la si fa) anche in maniera pi\u00f9 intuitiva.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
