\nIan Stewart \u00e8 uno dei pochi fortunati che hanno tenuto la rubrica dei giochi matematici sullo Scientific American<\/em>. La genesi di questo libro (Ian Stewart, Another Fine Math You’ve Got Me Into…<\/em><\/a>, Dover 2003 (1992), pag xi+269, $12.95, ISBN 0-486-43181-9), qui ripropostoci dai benemeriti della Dover, \u00e8 strana: raccoglie infatti le rubriche “degli altri mesi”. Nell’edizione inglese dello Scientific American, infatti, la rubrica si alternava con “Scienza in casa”, ma “Pour la science”, la versione francese, preferiva pubblicarla tutti i mesi; cos\u00ec lui scriveva esplicitamente per loro nei mesi “dispari”. Per amor di precisione, questa \u00e8 la seconda raccolta, dopo Game, Set and Math<\/em> che per\u00f2 ho trovato meno coinvolgente. Stewart ama scrivere racconti con improbabili personaggi, tipo la famiglia di Henry Worm con la moglie Anne-Lida, la bimba Wermentrude, e l’amico Albert Wormstein; oppure il neandertaliano Pa Thuggerass che ovviamente scopr\u00ec il teorema di Pitagora con svariate decine di migliaia d’anni di anticipo. La difficolt\u00e0 per noi non anglofoni \u00e8 doppia, perch\u00e9 alla complessit\u00e0 dei temi si aggiunge quella di comprendere i giochi di parole; per\u00f2 il risultato finale, se si riesce a sopravvivere, \u00e8 indubbiamente piacevole… naturalmente per chi ama la matematica :-)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
