K\u00f6rner,<em>The Pleasures of Counting<\/em>, Cambridge University Press 1996, p. 534, Lst. 24.99, ISBN 0-521-56823-4) pu\u00f2 essere letto da uno studente liceale molto brillante, oppure da un universitario del primo biennio&#8230; che sia interessato alla matematica, questo \u00e8 ovvio. K\u00f6rner sceglie di fare una serie di racconti, dalle epidemie di colera nella Londra del diciannovesimo secolo ai convogli di navi che attraversavano l&#8217;oceano durante le due guerre mondiali, e al loro interno mostra le teorie che venivano man mano avanzate e il modello matematico che ci sta dietro. Il tutto con una serie di esercizi che inframmezzano il testo e dei quali non viene presentata la soluzione; al massimo c&#8217;\u00e8 la risposta, che come un qualunque appassionato di matematica sa non \u00e8 esattamente la stessa cosa.<br \/>\nDal punto di vista del lettore italiano il problema \u00e8 dato dall&#8217;anglocentricit\u00e0 del libro, sia per gli esempi che per lo stile di scrittura che magari pu\u00f2 apparire un po&#8217; strano, e che quindi non fa pensare a un grande successo per un&#8217;eventuale edizione italiana.
