Robert Harris apparve all’improvviso sulla scena letteraria con la sua ucronia Fatherland<\/em>: come sarebbe stato il mondo nel 1964 se Hitler avesse sconfitto la Gran Bretagna? Dopo quel successo ha continuato a sfornare libri che potremmo definire “similstorici”, dove il racconto \u00e8 basato su una minuziosa ricostruzione storica. Anche questa sua ultima opera (Robert Harris, Pompei<\/em>, Mondadori “I Miti” 2004, [2003] p. 296, € 4.60, ISBN 88-04-53362-5, trad. Renato Pera) non sfugge alla formula evidentemente vincente: naturalmente lo sfondo \u00e8 quello dell’eruzione del Vesuvio, ma la vera protagonista della storia \u00e8 la tecnica romana di costruzione degli acquedotti, presentata in tutte le sue minuzie che sono quelle che del resto hanno permesso a queste opere una incredibile durata nel tempo. Ci\u00f2 detto, bisogna per\u00f2 aggiungere che il libro non \u00e8 memorabile. Intendiamoci, si legge con facilit\u00e0 e piacere, ma non si pu\u00f2 dire che lasci una traccia permanente.
