\"copertina\"<\/a> I computer servono per fare matematica, questo \u00e8 ovvio. No, sappiamo tutti che non \u00e8 cos\u00ec: li si usa praticamente per tutt’altro. Ma \u00e8 vero che quella che oggi chiamiamo informatica \u00e8 nata come costola della matematica, usando strutture matematiche come insiemistica, funzioni, induzione e ricorsivit\u00e0. Paolo Caressa mostra come questi elementi siano stati uniti tra loro, e presenta un minilinguaggio di programmazione, il LAW (Linguaggio di Assegnazioni e While) che con questi due unici costrutti pu\u00f2 simulare un qualunque altro linguaggio, e che Caressa usa per dimostrare il teorema della fermata costruendo una funzione che non pu\u00f2 essere computata da nessun programma. Caressa termina con un accenno ai linguaggi formali, mostrando come sono utili ma non “abbastanza potenti”. Il personaggio raccontato da Veronica Giuffr\u00e9 \u00e8 Jean-Baptiste Joseph Fourier, un matematico poco ortodosso che ha creato la teoria del calore in modo non esattamente ortodosso… ma poi la teoria \u00e8 stata messa a posto. D’altronde Fourier era persino stato nominato prefetto di un dipartimento francese: ve lo sareste aspettati da un matematico? I miei problemi infine tornano sulla spannometria ma stavolta richiedono di valutare probabilit\u00e0.<\/p>\n
