Eppure la cosa dovrebbe essere chiara, visto che si parla della sua (seconda) morte&#8230; In realt\u00e0 questa raccolta contiene testi scritti in stili diversi. Quello che d\u00e0 il titolo \u00e8 in effetti abbastanza simile a Poe, ma per esempio i primi due (<i>Trophy for an Earnest Boy<\/i> e <i>Stop Killing the Innocence<\/i> mi ricordano pi\u00f9 Roald Dahl.<br \/>\nIn generale la maggior parte dei racconti termina con un anticlimax: Matthews era molto bravo a costruire un ambiente che avvince il lettore&#8230; fino alla fine, che come avrebbe detto T.S. Eliot arriva not with a bang but a whimper&#8221;. <i>The Waitress and the Relic<\/i> \u00e8 probabilmente l&#8217;esempio pi\u00f9 chiaro; A Story Not About Richardson invece gira intorno senza meta. Confesso di non aver capito il finale di <i>Delusional Gymnosis<\/i>, ma il motivo potrebbe essere il mio inglese lungi dall&#8217;essere perfetto. <i>Indispensable Ghosts<\/i> termina anche in un tono minore, ma visto il racconto ci sta; <i>The Kiss<\/i> mi fa invece pensare al bacio della morte (chiss\u00e0 se l&#8217;idea era quella). Il racconto migliore \u00e8 senza dubbio il pi\u00f9 lungo, <i>Dark Machinery<\/i>, anche se avrei comunque eliminato la prima parte che non ha relazione con la seconda a parte l&#8217;essere ambientata in Italia nella seconda guerra mondiale. <\/p>\n<p>(Jack Matthews, <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3KbDRZL\"><em>Second Death of E.A.
