\"[copertina]\"Mathematics Magazine<\/i> \u00e8 il fratellino minore dell’American Mathematical Monthly<\/i>: una rivista che parla di matematica ma a un livello pi\u00f9 basso. Intendiamoci: “pi\u00f9 basso” significa a livello universitario… Ad ogni buon conto, alcuni anni fa \u00e8 stato preparato questo libro (Gerald L. Alexanderson (ed.), The Harmony of the World<\/em><\/a> : 75 years of Mathematics Magazine, MAA 2007, pag. 287, $ 56.95, ISBN 978-0-88385-560-7) che raccoglie una piccola selezione degli articoli apparsi nei primi tre quarti di secolo della storia della rivista. Onestamente mi aspettavo di pi\u00f9: la parte pi\u00f9 importante mi \u00e8 sembrata quella (auto)celebrativa, dove si mostra come anche grandi nomi della matematica si sono “degnati” di scrivere l\u00ec. Ci sono chicche storiche come il resoconto del Congresso Internazionale dei Matematici del 1936 (dove ho scoperto che gli italiani non vi parteciparono a causa delle sanzioni per l’invasione dell’Etiopia, anche se non ho capito se \u00e8 stata una ripicca italiana o un divieto imposto dagli inglesi) o curiosit\u00e0 come il sistema di numerazione in base φ scritto da un dodicenne. In definitiva, per\u00f2, \u00e8 un lbro di cui si pu\u00f2 fare tranquillamente a meno.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
